“Content comes in all shapes and sizes and can be made up of various content types. Text, icons, colour, images and video. Your brief is to design three screens for a smartwatch app. This could be to manage fitness, water intake, payments, children tracker, etc.”
We were first tasked with making a mind-map to help with ideation for our Smartwatch app. I’d pretty quickly came to a conclusion for my smartwatch app, but I still wanted to explore other potential ideas (even if just in name and concept).
Unsurprisingly, the best ideas made use of a smartwatch’s unique features such as a heart rate monitor (HRM) and it’s convenience of being on the user’s wrist at all times.
Some standout ideas on reflection were:
I ultimately went with the Medication Reminder app, as due to it being quite a simple idea, it will hopefully be quick for me to execute. As well as this, despite being a simple idea, I do often find it difficult to keep track of not only when to take my medication, but remembering if I had been taking it days prior. This is a common problem for many types of daily / long-term medication (such as SSRI’s) as they have the unfortunate side-effect of forgetfulness.
Digital sketching allowed me quickly edit ideas while sketching them out, while not having to worry about saving iterations thanks to Procreate’s video recording feature.
